Archbishop Naumann and Family Week: Marriage Is Priority 1

On his podcast, national pro-life leader Archbishop Naumann is promoting a great line-up of speakers is coming to a Family Week Retreat at Benedictine College from May 22-28 designed to share the Catholic vision for marriage and family life.

The retreat will be hosted by the Center for Family Life, one of the  Centers of Distinction in support of the college’s Transforming Culture in America strategic plan. Dr. Tory Baucum, Director of the Center for Family Life, recently spoke with Kansas City, Kan., Archbishop Joseph Naumann on his podcast, The Shepherd’s Voice, about the importance of the family and how the Church’s teaching of marriage and family life led to his conversion from an Anglican pastor to Catholicism.

On the podcast, Archbishop Naumann spoke about the responsibility we have as Catholics to nurture family life. “It’s one of the great priorities for our culture and society but certainly for the Church to do everything we can to empower married couples to live their sacrament,” he said.

Dr. Tory Baucum explained how the upcoming Family Week Retreat will form and equip families with the knowledge they need to build up the culture.

“Part of the Family Week is that we need to build domestic churches,” he said. “That’s how we’re going to renew the parish church. That’s how we’re going to renew society. That’s how we’re going to protect children.”

The retreat will feature several different presenters, including Father Luis Granados, Father Jose Noriega, Rev. Dr. Eugene Rivers, Dr. Jacqueline Rivers, and more who each share their expertise on marriage and family life throughout the week.

Archbishop Naumann encouraged listeners to take advantage of this Family Week Retreat and spend quality time with your family.

“If you’ve never been to Benedictine College, it’s up on the bluffs of the Missouri River and it’s beautiful,” he said. “There’s been a real renaissance there and it would be a great place to spend a week with your family and be exposed to some of the best teaching and be around other families that share your passion.”

Listen to the podcast and register for the Family Week Retreat by the May 7 deadline.
